Test Questions:
1)You asked for 3 different feminist critiques for the romance novels and I only have 2 in my notes: New (liberating) and Traditional (patriarchal), what was the 3rd one?
2) Are animals used in romance novels because they are considered untamed beasts and the taming of them are analogous to the taming of the men in the romance novels?
3)Could you please explain this quote: "God is to King as People are to Celebrity"?
Thank you

1) The third position is really what Radway's article is about. The second holds that romance novels and the fantasies developed in them are not only an agent of patriarchy but also a useful stepping stone towards a truly feminist position. The third, that romance fantasy is an end in itself rather than a means; the "alternative subjectivities" that it develops are a worthwile feminist goal.
2)Yes, except there may also be the man taming the woman.
3) Rather than answering this question, I would ask you to look for the answer in the Marks and Fischer reading. It is one of their major points.
